Variable Star Network: World Center for Transient Object Astronomy and Variable Stars

چکیده
Variable Star Network (VSNET) is a global professional-amateur network of researchers in variable stars and related objects, particularly in transient objects, such as cataclysmic variables, black hole binaries, supernovae and gamma-ray bursts. The VSNET has been playing a pioneering role in establishing the field of transient object astronomy, by effectively incorporating modern advance in observational astronomy and global electronic network, as well as collaborative progress in theoretical astronomy and astronomical computing. The VSNET is now one of the best-featured global networks in this field of astronomy. We review on the historical progress, design concept, associated technology, and a wealth of scientific achievements powered by the VSNET.

Pulsating red giant and supergiant stars in the Local Group dwarf galaxy Andromeda I
We have conducted an optical long-term monitoring survey of the majority of dwarf galaxies in the Local Group, with the Isaac Newton Telescope (INT), to identify the long period variable (LPV) stars. LPV stars vary on timescales of months to years, and reach the largest amplitudes of their brightness variations at optical wavelengths, due to the changing temperature. They trace stellar populati...
متن کاملThe Automated Detection and Classification of Variable Stars
Variable stars have been an incredibly important discovery since the early days of astronomy. Certain types of variable stars, such as Cepheids, can give not only great insight into the inner dynamics of stars, but also essential parameters of the star, such as luminosity, mass, and the distance from the observer. The number of discovered variable stars has risen dramatically over time, and sev...
متن کاملThe Optical Gravitational Lensing Experiment. Ogle #7: Binary Microlens or a New Unusual Variable?
We present the light curve of an unusual variable object, OGLE #7, detected during the OGLE search for microlensing events. After one season of being in a low, normal state, the star brightened by more than 2 mag with a characteristic double-maximum shape, and returned to normal brightness after 60 days. We consider possible explanations of the photometric behavior of OGLE #7. The binary microl...
متن کاملSpin and Isospin Asymmetry, Equation of State and Neutron Stars
In the present work, we have obtained the equation of state for neutron star matter considering the in uence of the ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic spin state. We have also investigated the structure of neutron stars. According to our results, the spin asymmetry stiens the equation of state and leads to high mass for the neutron star.
متن کاملVariable Unidentified Emission Near 6307 Å in η Carinae
We have discovered a conspicuous unidentified variable feature near 6307 Å in the spectrum of η Carinae which is spatially unresolved from the central star and its wind (r . 200–300 AU). It is significant for two reasons: such prominent unidentified lines are now rare in this object, and this feature varies strongly and systematically. It exhibits a combination of characteristics which, so far ...
